The First Women to receive a Pilot license
Élise Raymonde Deroche (French name) was born on 22 August 1882 in Paris, France. At the age of 20, she began her career in acting and adopted the stage name Raymonde de Laroche as her name. On 8 March 1910, de Laroche made history as the first woman in the world to receive a pilot’s license. On 18 July 1919, during landing the airplane went into a dive and crashed, killing both de Laroche and the co-pilot. A memorial statue at Le Bourget Airport in Paris is named after De Laroche.
