This fire alarm is a speaker strobe. It doesn't make any noise by itself. You supply a signal from a 70 volt amplifier. The voice evacuation panel is responsible for driving the speakers in a typical fire alarm system.

Of course, since it's just a speaker, it's not limited to fire-alarm-centric audio.
