This was the second in our Wilmington Bicentennial Summer Speaker Series presented by the Wilmington Historical Society, "And Grandma Said…Iroquois Teachings: as passed down through the oral tradition" with author and former sub-chief of the Bear Clan of the Mohawk Nation at Akwasasne, Tom Sakokweniónkwas Porter. Porter’s presentation worked its way chronologically through the major events embedded in Iroquois oral history and ceremony, from the creation story, to the clan system, to the four most sacred rituals, to the beginnings of democracy brought to his people by the prophet and statesman known as the Peacemaker. Tom also participated a book signing of his book after his presentation.
