Indonesia's geophysics agency (BMKG) reported that a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit west of Sumatra Island on Tuesday, which triggered a tsunami warning. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) initially reported the quake as 6.9 magnitude. According to the country's meteorological department, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 84 kilometers (52.2 miles) and caused initial tsunami warnings.
