Coypus Myocastor coypus are natives of South Ameruica. These large aquatic rodents may have eventually been eradicated in England many years after their escape from nutria fur farms during the 1930s but they are still common in parts of France, for example in the Loire Valley where these images were captured. They are shown here going about their daily business - grooming themselves, swimming and feeding on surface vegetation (presumably Duckweed) in their own inimitable manner. In the first sequence some youngsters have emerged from a wood-pile that affords very good protection should any danger arise.
