This video shows a quick run of the 2012 Hornby R3140 model, the Northern Rail Class 142 Pacer Railbus.
Looks: Superb application of the Northern Rail Serco-Abelia joint venture livery, arguably the strongest point. This is an old tooling dating back to 1987, and is not quite superdetailed, as is advertised in the catalogue. The superdetailed component probably refers to the livery application. The doorways used in this model no longer represent Pacer prototype, as the doors on the real thing were updated for accessibilty. The motor is mounted low in the chassis to allow for a clean view through the windows, but this may be affected if you use a decoder with a long set of wires connecting ro the 8 pin socket.
Motor and Power: 8-pin DCC ready, with one motorised unit. You may feel shortchanged because of the asking price, but having one motor prevents the mismatching that was present on old Pacers with two. The motor is a Type 7, and although not the most quiet, runs well at slow speed as shown. Pickups are present on all wheels, and the dummy feeds back to the motor car.
Special Features: Excellent livery application
Weaknesses: No lighting fitted as standard
