Marble Beach, also known as Saliara beach or Paralia Saliara, is one of the most beautiful places on the island of Thassos. Unfortunately or luckily, the access road is quite bad, a mountain road without asphalt with stones and a lot of dust. In fact, there are 3 access roads, the best currently being the one coming from Makriamos. I visited the beach in 2011 spring and in 2022 in full season.
The beach is located in the northeast of the island, a few km south of the capital and north of Skala Panagia or Golden beach.
The beauty of the beach, which is a small one, consists in the sand that is not sand at all, they are small polished pieces of white marble from the nearby quarry. The particularly clean and clear water becomes turquoise here and the contrast offered by the sun, the water, the marble and the surrounding landscape is special and unheard of anywhere else... maybe only in Ionic...
We have to say that the place is not really natural, without human intervention here it would have been a wild beach, with ordinary and probably unvisited water.
Today, the beach is full of deckchairs, noisy and extremely crowded...unfortunately. The prices are not really low and are constantly increasing. There is also music and some food, but the good news is that... there is no need to stay here if it is too crowded and you don't like it, after the first corner there is a bigger, freer and quieter beach, called Porto Vathy, where you can stay few hours.
