Closed Guard Lapel Choke (Juji Jime): The traditional cross choke, or cross-collar strangle, is an excellent option from the guard in the gi. But sometimes you’ll find yourself working with people who are stronger, bigger or skilled at breaking your grip. When this happens, we need a more robust method of controlling posture and maintaining our grip for the choke. The lapel feed - passing the skirt of the gi around the back - gives us remarkable power even with a bigger person.
Here we cover 2 attacks: a more orthodox type of cross choke using the skirt of the gi, and a followup attack when you encounter resistance (the “Brabo”).
