Human rights groups say the jailing of a prominent lawyer in China makes a 'mockery of the rule of law'.
Wang was sentenced to four and a half years for subversion. He was on trial for defending political activists, victims of land seizures and the banned religious group, Falun Gong.
His family are advocating for his release on social media using the hashtag #FreeWangQuanzhang.
Over 200 others lawyers and activists were detained during China’s ‘709 crackdown’ in 2015. Amnesty International is calling for their immediate release.
