Hi, everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we're taking a look at how the Yakima FreshTrack ski and snowboard carrier fits on the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE. Now, remember this carrier comes in two sizes. We have the Yakima FreshTrack 4, which is what we have here, or the Yakima FreshTrack 6. So, you've got your SUV ready to hit the slopes.

How do you carry your skis and snowboards One option is to carry it in your hatch but then you have snow inside and then water all throughout. So ideally, you would put them on your roof and a ski and snowboard carrier is a great way to do that. We have different options for your car. The Yakima FreshTrack is gonna be an affordable but also solid option where you still have premium features like locks as well as versatility to use this as a fishing pole carrier during the warmer months without breaking bank. So, here you have your carrier and this can carry up to four pairs of skis or two snowboards.

You also have different size options for the Yakima FreshTrack. They all work the same but just the difference is going to be the length of the carrier. So, they all have these two lock cores on the carriers. And that way, it secures the button. But when you're ready to unload your skis, you just unlock this and hit that button.

So, even if you have your thick gloves, all you need to do is hit that button and it pops up and stays up. That way, it's easier for you to grab your skis and snowboards. Downside though for this vehicle, it's a little bit taller so you're gonna have to reach in there. Something that may be a little tricky to do with your boots on so be careful. On the inside of the carrier, you have this rubber padding and this makes sure that your skis and snowboards are cushioned, but also that they have grip even if they have snow on it.

Or if you're carrying this with fishing rods during the warmer months, since it's straight across, you can still do so. Now, measuring from the top of our roof to right where that rubber padding sits, it's 7 1/2 inches. Something to remember is if you do have skis with extra tall bindings, make sure you have enough clearance so you're not scratching up your moon roof. Now, if you don't have enough clearance, you do have the option to use a ski lift feature here which lifts this up to give you that clearance. Now, the height this adds to the top of your roof is gonna be 9 1/2 inches. So, not as low profile or as sleek as something like the Yakima FatCat EVO. But really, when you have skis and snowboards on there, you are gonna have wind drag and wind noise anyways so it's more of a matter if you're leaving is on your roof without them or not. This has a universal clamping jaw system so the jaws just fit around your crossbars and then you have this T-bolt that locks it into place. So, once you have your jaws around there, you just tighten it down with this knob. While there are no locks on this jaw system, you do have a security screw there if you really wanna tighten it down. So, something to remember for your GLE is what type of crossbar do you have because that will change your experience with ski and snowboard carriers. It's very popular for this SUV to have crossbars that are flush, meaning no overhang, which also means you're gonna have to reach in there to hit your ski and snowboard carrier and get that all loaded up. If you're taller than me, might be a little bit easier. But something to consider is we do have other options for you like a carrier that slides out. One example is the Kuat Grip. I did a video of that on this vehicle if you want to compare. That's a bit more of a premium product though. So, if you want an affordable ski and snowboard carrier that gets the job done and has locks included, then this might be a great fit for you. Hopefully, my video helped you out with seeing the measurements and dimensions to see if it'll work for your adventures.
