In search of a proper Harmonic Flute, I reached out to my organ builder friend Ryan Ballantyne who graciously arranged for me to record on his opus 1 instrument at the Riverside West Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
The Andante Sostenuto is the second movement of Charles Marie Widor's Organ Symphony No. 9, Op. 70 "Gothique". This piece is notable for its double pedal with the left foot taking the bass line and the right foot playing a counter melody. On this organ the Swell Violin Diapason and Salicional are coupled to the Pedal Gedeckt 8 to balance the Harmonic flute of the Great. The brief passage on the Choir features the English Open. The 16' stops are finally added to the pedal for the final 2 notes. One of my favorite beautiful pieces to play!
