How important is pre-market trading? How does the price of a stock change during the pre-open market when everyone is allowed to trade only after the market is open? Who can trade in a pre-opening market session? What is the difference between pre-market and regular trading hours? What should retail investors take note during non-regular hours? OK.
What makes the stock prices change in pre-opening of a stock market, though the actual trading starts once the market opens at 9:15 am? How can I find what price a stock is trading in the pre-market, or is it always a guess? What are a few disadvantages of trading during pre or post-market hours? How do you trade pre-market stock movers? As a day-trader, how do you use high-volume pre-market gainers/losers to guide your trades?
Let's examine at the importance of the pre-market session when trying to form an opinion on what the current day is going to do from the opening bell. In this case I'm going to look at the SPDR S&P 500. Most of the time there won't be much going on but you can still make an assessment. Here the market has gapped up but hasn't attempted to fill that gap. Here I would look to see if this could be an opportunity for the market to go higher. The premarket acts as a guide to the ensuing price action; without it you would be flying blind. The premarket gives you extra layer of levels to work off, sentiment to work off and those two combined give you a little bit of edge going into the morning. So what point do you discard the pre-market and start to look at the current trading day?
