I have produce this video to introduce the concept of remote reward placement and how to use it in training your dog to overcome distractions.

In this video, I will go over the techniques in detail for using the remote placement of a reward object in a positive reward based training session. This technique will help your dog learn to check in with you rather than to engage other distracting stimuli. The main prerequisite for this work is a strong yes/no/good marker system. We must teach the dog that yes means a reward can be accessed and no means it can not be accessed. Good means the behavior is correct and to keep doing it. I will cover some of this work very briefly but not exhaustively in the video. Chakira began the work of learning the marker system about 6 months prior to making this video.

We will run similar exercises in our protection classes using the helper as the reward and instead of concentrating on focused heeling we will start with contact heeling and guarding the decoy. Communication between the handler and helper will activate the decoy to begin the reward play but only when the dog surrenders control to the handler. We find this technique extremely effective in teaching dogs to obey during high drive situations like protection work.

I also include information regarding managing your dog's energy and hydration during a prolonged training session.
