Up close and personal with a Dugong!

When the most shy sea creatures come to your side to stare at you and display a beautiful show underwater!

This rare encounter only happened to me once in more than 4000 Dives!

Usually Dugongs swim away as soon as they notice divers around for many people it's hard to control the excitement and often divers chase large animals to get a closer look or a better photograph.

On this day when I spotted the dugong, I lowered myself and I stayed still for nearly 30 minutes, watching it from far and breathing as little as I could.

Immediately the dugong noticed me and it took a long time for me to gain its trust.

Possibly because I was there stationery like a rock, maybe because I was there alone...

It's hard to say why but eventually the dugong decided to check me out...

The event only lasted a few minutes before it went away but there was definitely a connection the moment we made contact.

And the very first time and marine mammal smiled back at me!! Explains Marcel.
