As the Administration remains committed to implementing disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) initiatives to capacitate government agencies, civil society and stakeholders, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. honors the individuals and groups who have demonstrated excellence in attaining a resilient future for all during the 24th Gawad Kalasag Seal and Special Awards for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance on December 13, 2024.
Spearheaded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), through the National Gawad Kalasag Committee and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Gawad Kalasag is the primary recognition scheme for stakeholders who promote and implement DRRM, climate change adaptation and humanitarian assistance programs that protect high-risk communities against extreme hazards and disasters.
It adopts a mandatory assessment of all local government units (LGUs) and critical institutions such as schools and hospitals. It also recognizes civil society organizations, groups and individuals who have shown exemplary practices in DRRM, with the primary goal of obtaining sustained commitment and support by recognizing the exceptional contributions of DRRM practitioners in strengthening the resilience and adaptive capacities of various aspects of society and communities to disaster risks.
