Pakistan: Islamabad On High Alert Ahead Of Former PM Imran Khan's "Final Call" Protest
Pakistan on Sunday (November 24) suspended mobile and internet services "in areas with security concerns" as supporters of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan gear up for a major protest in the capital Islamabad. Khan's supporters are calling for his release as they accuse the government of "stealing the mandate" — a euphemism for the claims of rigging in February elections in which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's party claimed power. On November 21, a court granted Khan bail in a graft case. But Khan continues to be behind bars on other charges. The incarcerated Pakistani leader faces over 150 cases and remains imprisoned since August 2023.
