Some Backstory on this Poem:
Khubayb ibn Adiyy was taken captive and escorted in a procession of thousands which was led by men like Abu Sufyan ibn Harb (one of the seniors of Quraysh, later became Muslim), and others.
The Quraysh we're furious after they had lost the Battle of Badr to the
Muslims. So they intended for Khubayb's death to be revenge for their losses.
Khubayb's place of execution was set, he was going to be crucified,
and cut to pieces by spears and swords alive.
Before Khubayb was about to be tied upon the wooden trunk, he said to the leaders of Quraysh:
"If you would, leave me to pray two Rak'at before my death." The Quraysh allowed this.
Once Khubayb ibn Adiyy' had finished the leaders of Quraysh put him onto the wooden trunk,
and that's when he read this poetry.
Once it had finished, The executioners started putting their spears and swords through him,
while they taunted and insulting him in the process.
The Quraysh said:
"Would you like Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و سلم) to be in your place while you go free?"
Khubayb ibn Adiyy said:
"By Allah, I would not want to be safe and secure among my family while
even a thorn hurts Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و سلم)."
By saying this, the crowd around him raised their fists in the air and shouted:
"Kill him! Kill him!"
Khubayb lifting his head to the sky and raised his hands in Du'a above the wooden cross, saying:
"Count them all, O Lord," he said. "Destroy them and let not a single one escape."
And he died, رضي الله عنه.

Abu Huraira narrated that The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Whoever invites to guidance will be rewarded like those who follow him in
guidance are rewarded, and that will not decrease the reward of those who
have followed him".
