Millenia formally came into being in the year 2000 as a young, energetic group of four musicians dedicated to both preserving and advancing Western Canadian Ukrainian music. Over the past twelve years, they have played many zabavas, festivals, and private events across western Canada, as well as The United States. 2001 saw the release of their extremely successful debut album, "Коріння". This album was recorded early in the band's history and pays homage to their Ukrainian musical "roots" (which is, incidentally, how the album got its title). In September of 2006, they released their second album entitled "Җиття". This album again enabled more opportunities to perform in front of broader audiences while introducing Ukrainian music to younger crowds. Most recently the album "Браття" was successfully released in February 2012. After 12 years and a few line up changes, Millenia showcased all their talents by featuring more traditional instruments and vocals all being recorded in a modern way for all ages to enjoy.
Millenia has a wealth of musical experience and a diverse musical background between them. They have all played music from a very young age, and have many family members who have been (and still are) involved in playing Ukrainian music in Canada. Millenia is Bobby Yakoweshen (Drums/Vocals), Johnny Wacko (Keyboards/Lead Vocals), Ryan Pugh (Guitar/Fiddle/Vocals), Shawn Ostafie (Accordion/Dulcimer/Bass), and Mike Brazeau (Bass/Guitar/Vocals).
Millenia is very excited to be part of the Canadian National Ukrainian Festival again!! The best part about the festival is getting to share our love of music and heritage with the thousands of people we have had the privilege to meet and perform for, in this we thank you!
