The cooling fan in my wife's Sony Vaio laptop had become very noisy. After cleaning out the dust there wasn't much improvement. So it needed replacing. Parts can be found quite easily & reasonably priced online. The key thing when doing the job is avoiding static, magnetic screwdrivers and ensuring you replace the thermal compound between the processors & the heatsinks.
The process of getting into the laptop varies between all models. The Vaio needed the whole base removed which involved many screws & a few covers.
