The collapse of the USSR is one of the most significant events of the 20th century. And the debate about why this great country collapsed overnight is still raging today. Some think that it fell apart because of incapable rulers (looking at you, Mikhail Gorbachev), some say it was an evil masterplan of the Western World. But today we will discuss another aspect of the last years of the USSR's life that is not often remembered. The fact is that in the last decade of the USSR's life, airplanes crashed, trains and nuclear reactors exploded, steamships collided, and other crazy incidents occurred literally every year. Today we will try to recollect all the unbelievable man-made disasters of the Soviet Union in the 1980s and answer the question...was it just a coincidence? Or was it something more?

Hey there. Somehow you found my video and decided to watch it. So let me introduce myself. I'm Sergei and I'm from Russia. My channel is about my native country. I want to tell English-speaking viewers about the real Russia, about its past and present. Unfortunately, you can find a lot of propaganda about Russia on the Internet, both from the Russian media and from the Western ones. I want to tell you about Russia, as it really is, the country in which I was born, grew up, and lived all my life.
