Members of the South African Police Service have approached the Safety and Security Sectoral Bargaining Council for a conciliation process with the employer.
This is on a dispute with police minister Bheki Cele over the incorporation of public service act members into the police act of 1995.
Police unions launched the dispute with the employer accusing the minister of reneging on a signed 2011 agreement to move the SAPS members who are mostly admin staff to start serving under the police act.
SABC Economics Reporter Katlego Legodi is at the bargaining council and spoke to the SAPS workers.
