Day 19 with Nodin – working with the surcingle and building confidence! Today, I switched back to the larger, thicker surcingle after seeing how well he handled things yesterday with the smaller one. Our session focused on groundwork, introducing ground driving, and helping him stay calm and relaxed.
I took it step by step—making sure not to rush and giving Noden plenty of rubs and reassurances along the way. We worked on yielding, changing directions, and getting him comfortable with ropes touching different areas, including near his hocks. I was so pleased to see how well he responded, especially during those transitions and when I started positioning myself further behind him for groundwork prep.
It’s all about keeping things simple and breaking down each task so Nodin feels confident. He handled everything like a champ, including the more challenging moments, and finished the session relaxed and happy. Progress like this makes me so proud! Next step: building towards saddling.
