STORYLINE
As the 2013 Zimbabwe elections loomed large, opposition candidate Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai addressed more than 50-thousand supporters at his last rally in downtown Harare.
Although he said he feared the same vote-rigging that marred the previous violent and disputed elections in 2008, his words on Monday were less combative than usual.
"I was beaten and incarcerated for no good reason. I was treated like a common criminal but I am not bitter," he said.
"I have reflected upon everything that has happened to me and to my family and I have forgiven my tormentors," he continued, before adding that he hopes his longtime rival President Robert Mugabe is able to "enjoy his retirement in peace and comfort of his homeland".
However, not all MDC supporters at the rally shared that sentiment.
One man held aloft a sign reading "Rest in pieces Bob".
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission said on Monday that it is fully ready for Wednesday's general election despite claims by the MDC that Mugabe's ZANU-PF party is trying use the electoral commission to subvert the vote.
He added that the people of Zimbabwe had been "shortchanged" by the way polls were being administered by the electoral body.
