Gender and sexual rights are increasingly under threat from a global wave of backlash. This report examines the challenges that gender justice movements have experienced over recent years and outlines guiding principles for building solidarities for gender justice, as a means to counter this backlash.
In doing so, the report traces the evolution of the gender and development field since the 1970s, from challenging universalist assumptions about gender to visibilising care work, moving towards collective empowerment approaches, sexual and reproductive justice, sexual rights and paying attention to masculinities and patriarchy.
