5. SOUNDBITE: (French) Dominique de Villepin, French Foreign Minister:
"Our talks today (Wednesday) have allowed us to state that we share the same aims for the future - the central role of
United Nations, the respect of the principles of the integrity, unity and sovereignty of Iraq, and the necessity of mobilising urgent humanitarian action. Beyond this, and the question of Iraq obviously, our thoughts were those of the long term - about the crisis management in today's world, about the necessity of a multipolar world in which everyone is able to assert their responsibilities with the force of legitimacy represented by the United Nations."

"I wanted to say that we appreciate the support provided by France and the way they have provided it. Regarding this crisis, we all wanted to help, but we don't want to sound opportunistic. The UN Security Council should be clear about security matters especially at the multi-lateral level. We need to work on reform within the security council as this will be important in achieving any resolution."
7. SOUNDBITE: (French) Dominique de Villepin, French Foreign Minister:
"The humanitarian situation is obviously at the heart of our concerns. We spoke in detail about the situation. As you know, a resolution was passed last Friday - resolution 1472 - with the unanimous backing of the Security Council, which gives the power to the General Secretary of the United Nations for 45 days, to try to regulate this situation and, in doing so to prolong the plans of exchanging oil for food."
