Technology is always changing and rapid prototyping is no exception. New tools are out there to beat the turnaround times and get your prototypes from idea to part faster than ever.
Being able to take a component and put a custom tap or hole in the part is now eliminated with the technology of a CNC machine and specifically the PCNC 770. It turns a process of having to get the prototype sent off to someone to get a whole new part made, into 10 minutes on the machine and the part comes out ready to test.
Inprentus is a scientific start-up company that creates diffraction gratings for research on x-ray and extreme ultra-violet light. Lots of things need to be tested, and lots of parts need to be created to accomplish this testing. Having a CNC mill there offers them the opportunity to speed up this process, and the rapid prototyping technology allows them to become even faster.
While the company doesn’t rely on their Tormach PCNC 770 for complex fabrication, according to Jonathan Manton, VP of Engineering, it has been important to improving their prototyping and development process.
