This is it. Goodbye Singapore Airlines at Newark Airport, goodbye to the Singapore A340-500, goodbye to the world's longest flight, goodbye to an era of ultra long-haul flights.
This video shows the last landing and flight of Singapore Airlines at Newark Airport. It is also one of the last flights of the Singapore Airlines Airbus A340-500 as they will be selling them back to Airbus.
Today, Singapore Airlines ceased operations at Newark Liberty International Airport, discontinuing their SQ21 and SQ22 flights, operated by the Airbus A340-500 in the 100 seat business class configuration. These two flights are known to the world as the longest flights ever, lasting approximately 18-21 hours in length.
This day is a very sad day for not just the aviation community, but also the world. These two flights were cancelled due to the huge payload, the fuel the flight needed, and economic waste.
Passengers inside the airplane had a tendency to get sick due to the breathing of recycled and stale air. Due to this, Singapore installed coffins in the airplane for passengers who passed away en route the flight.
The fuel cost was too much and was wasting a lot of money. Therefore, SIA had many reasons to discontinue the non environmental friendly flights.
Singapore Airlines will be missed at Newark Airport. We have enjoyed your fantastic presence here and hope to see you come back soon, with maybe a different a shorter flight route =)
This day has marked the end of ultra long haul flights in the world.
