Not only did the Wave sell out Snapdragon for the first time, but they also broke the NWSL single-game attendance record by around 7,000 people.
The game was won by a header by 17-year-old Jaedyn Shaw. It was her third goal in her first three games for the team. Since recently signing her first professional contract with the Wave late in the summer, Shaw has been a revelation and is becoming an inspiration for young female soccer players.
The game brought the San Diego community together while also showcasing the strides women’s soccer has taken recently. Earlier this month, representatives of the women's and men's national teams officially signed their new collective bargaining agreements with the U.S. Soccer Federation which allows for equal pay through identical economic terms, including commercial revenue sharing and equal World Cup prize money.
It is safe to say that the future of women’s soccer is in great hands.
