Aloha BrewTube:
In this episode I review Troegs Nugget Nectar again. However, this time I review the bottled version side-by-side with the canned version. As many of you may know I am a Nugget Nectar fan, the reason that I have decided to review Nugget Nectar again is because I want to see if there is a difference between the two packaging formats and if my palate has changed now thatI have had so many big, bright juice bombs. As for Troegs, they describe Nugget Nectar as follows:
"It’s impossible to forget your first squeeze. Once a year, as the newest humulus lupulus harvest arrives at Tröegs, we blend these super-fresh hops into an Imperial Amber Ale. Excessively dry-hopped, Nugget Nectar is an explosion of pine, resin and mango.."
Alcohol by Volume: 7.5%
Hop Bitterness (IBU's): 93ish
Color (SRM): Straw / Orange
Availability: Seasonal (February-March)
Malts: Pilsner, Vienna, Munich
Hops: Nugget, Warrior, Tomahawk, Simcoe, Palisade
HopBack Hops: Nugget
Yeast: Ale
This all sounds quite tasty. Lets see if Troegs Nugget Nectar lhas stood the test of time for me and continues to live up to the prose. Anyway, enjoy the video, my review and report card follows:
Troegs Nugget Nectar Bottled vs. Canned Batch REVIEW:
A: Troegs Nugget Nectar pours a dark amber colored with an off-white two finger rocky high head. It leaves massive lacings on the glass with plenty of alcohol legs.
*NOTE: The Bottled version had a bigger longer lasting head and a lot more glass lacing.
S: Lots of fresh citrus. orange, grapefruit, pine, herbaceous notes, a bit of honey rounded out with sweet bready malts and a nice dank undertone. No alcohol is detectable in the aroma.
*NOTE: The bottled version has a very faint fruity note and the canned version is more dank.
T: The taste is hoppy up front. I find the taste to be more towards oranges, apricots and pine than grapefruit. This is indicative of the equipment at the new Hershey brewery and its greater ingredient yield. Lovely.
*NOTE: The bottled version has a very faint fruity note and the canned version is more dank.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Feels smooth and wonderful to drink.
O: Bottled or Canned, Troegs Nugget Nectar is as solid as ever and even. It was really cool to review the two packaging formats side-by-side and to note the very subtle differences. Though I prefer the canned version its only by the slightest bit. Yes, I will buy and probably review this beer again. Why not, its a great beer.
