You may know from previous videos I’m on a journey to find the best every day carry items.
Today I’ll review the KeySmart key organizer and also compare it a little bit to the Quiet Carry Shorty.
After this be sure to check my channel to find the full Quiet Carry Shorty review from a few weeks ago.
I’ve been wearing and using this KeySmart for a few weeks now and feel I can give an honest review of it.
So, here goes.
I will review it for the following:
Fit, Setup, Use, Build, and Price
Let’s see how the KeySmart fit in my pocket.
It Fits well in the pocket it is a slimmer fit than the Shorty
Hey are a few pics of it clipped in.
The Clip attaches to the pocket rim nicely
You can see that the key fob hangs easily and will do so in the pocket also
Here is a picture of it hanging outside, so you can see the hang pattern
Nice that the keys and FOB won’t mangle and sit on top of each other.
And again you can see another shot of the clip here
Overall it fits great.
I’d give Fit a 10
Now let’s look at the setup
This KeySmart Rugged is supposed to fit up to 14 keys.
However, I currently have the long screws in there already and it is tight with 4 keys and the bottle opener.
There are 5 washers attached also, but those are much thinner than any key.
So, I’m not sure about the 14 keys claim.
One of the things that stands out to me is that the clip is not the same depth as a key so it throws off the balance.
The setup isn’t too bad, in some way easier than the Shorty,
but not really enough washers to balance it as well as the Shorty did.
So, in some ways depending on the number of keys you have it could end up taking longer as you will think you want to get it balanced on each side.
As you can see here the edges of the screws are not flush. Again, it didn’t come with any more washers to help with that.
It took just a few minutes and over time the protruding screws don’t bother me anymore.
For some reason the setup just doesn’t feel as satisfying as it should.
So, I’m going to give setup a 7.
One less than the Shorty.
Now let’s look at use and performance
The Keysmart’s frame is swooped so to speak and over time I got used to popping the keys out from the other side.
Wondering if it would have just been better for the frame to be straight and not swooped.
Here is some video of me doing it all one handed, and over time it wasn’t too shabby.
But still a straight frame would be easier to pop the keys out I think.
I ordered the rugged model that has a bottle opener.
It works fine, it pops
There are several accessories from Keysmart directly:
Usb drive, quick disconnect, mag connect, and a nano torch flashlight.
Actually there are even more. You can get a knife, a wrench a pen and more, …
With a minimum order of 50.
You can even get a Custom logo on each side as well.
I know most of us won’t be in this boat, but just letting you know, in case you are or will be.
So, there are a lot of options to choose from.
I’d give Use and Performance a 9.
Originally I thought it would be lower, but over time got to be easier to use and an additional plus for all the accessories .
The build feels feels sturdy and has a decent look and design to it
According to the Keysmart website it is made from
AIRCRAFT GRADE ALUMINUM , with stainless steel hardware, and has a laser engraved logo
It has a strong sturdy clip, similar in strength to the clip on the Shorty.
I’d give build a 9 out of 10
Now let’s talk about price.
It costs $35 for the rugged model on amazon.
Not bad, especially if compared to the Shorty which is 68 dollars.
Also, if you opt for the smaller version you can get it for under $22.
However, you will really want the clip.
So, 35 it is.
I’m not sure yet if I want a dedicated knife or not.
If not, then I would have to go with the Shorty.
However, if I eventually go with a dedicated Knife then I think this is the Best Key Organizer to get so far.
I’m gonna give price a 10
So that tallies up to a Total score of 45 out of 50, one point higher than the Shorty.
Which seems to be right.
I’ll probably want a dedicated EDC knife.
So, that’s it for today’s video
