A total eclipse of the moon will take place in the early morning hours of January 31, 2018. The eclipse will be visible to the naked eye from anywhere in southern California. It is safe to view a lunar eclipse without any eye protection.
Griffith Observatory’s All Space Considered team will bring the eclipse live via LiveStream, starting at 2:45 a.m., 6 minutes before the beginning of penumbral eclipse at 2:51 a.m.
A public event will also take place at Griffith Observatory beginning at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, January 31. ADMISSION IS FREE. The event is on the grounds only; the Observatory building will be closed. For more information check the Observatory web site, griffithobservatory.org
