Johannes Gutenberg's (1400-1468) invention of printing in Mainz fundamentally changed communication. For centuries, manuscripts had been handwritten, but now in principle it was possible to provide access to knowledge and education for everybody. For 500 years, Gutenberg's printing technique completely dominated worldwide communication. Since the 1990s, the "Gutenberg Galaxy" has been supplemented by digital media. Eight parts relate the history of the art of printing with moveable types.
