The Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for the New Year's Eve attack on an Istanbul nightclub that killed 39 and injured scores more.
In a statement released through its Amaq news agency, the group said the attack was carried out by a "heroic soldier of the caliphate".
It said the as-yet unidentified attacker was following the orders of the group's leader.
A massive manhunt is still underway and police are looking into whether the killer belongs to the same cell that carried out an attack at Istanbul's airport in June last year.
Turkish police have released several grainy pictures of the suspect, and said they have made eight arrests so far.
The latest attack marks the 19th major terror attack on Turkey since 2015.
