Only slightly over 50 percent of South Korean primary and secondary school students appeared to be receptive to the idea of reunification of the two Koreas.
Based on a sample of 116,000 primary and secondary school students polled last year, the Ministry of Unification reported on Tuesday that 53.5 percent of the respondents called for the necessity of unification of the divided Korean Peninsula. The figure was compared with 66.6 percent reported in 2010.
A report from the Korea Institute for National Unification indicated that the outcome has resulted from a lack of long-term educational directivity and public consensus on the reunification issue.
