Indian Railways run a DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) train between Banihal in Jammu region to Baramulla in Kashmir valley, covering the capital Srinagar along the way. As against the high-altitude snow peaks that comes to mind when we think of Kashmir, this train shows us the flat fertile valley in the Qazigund, Anantnag and Pulwama districts with their lush green fields of saffron and beautiful wooden houses.
