There were 40 new Covid-19 cases, including 30 in the community, as at noon on Friday (May 21).
Of the community cases, eight are currently unlinked, while the remaining 22 are linked to previous cases. Among them, 16 had already been quarantined.
There were also 10 imported cases, including eight returning Singaporeans or permanent residents.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and Changi Airport Group, testing results for an initial batch of Covid-19 positive airport workers were found to be similar and of the B1617 variant, which indicates that they originated from a common source.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the initial transmission could have occurred through an airport worker who was assisting a family from South Asia, who arrived in Singapore on 29 April, 2021 and were subsequently found to be positive for Covid-19 through their on-arrival tests," said the two agencies.
Further investigations are being done. CAAS and CAG did not say which country the family was from.
