In Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, the Archaeological Survey of India has uncovered a 400-square-meter stepwell, also known as a 'baoli,' in the Chandausi area. This discovery comes after the reopening of a Shiv-Hanuman temple closed for 46 years. District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya confirmed the stepwell, believed to be over 150 years old, was constructed with marble floors and brickwork. Excavation work is ongoing, with only part of the structure exposed so far. ASI is also conducting surveys of other historical sites in the region.
