In a debate on NHS staffing, I urged the Government to stop gaslighting NHS workers and pay them what they are worth. We will not address the problems facing our NHS until we address the undervaluation and under-resourcing of the people who keep it running.
That means addressing the issue of fair pay first and foremost. Twelve years of real terms pay cuts for nurses, doctors & midwives have helped create an NHS recruitment & retention crisis. If the Government were serious about tackling treatment waiting lists & ambulance delays, they would fund the fair pay rise that NHS staff are asking for.
