The current Atocha station is a railway complex next to the Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, where the Atocha-Cercanías station, the Puerta de Atocha station, and the greenhouse and old station area converge.
Atocha - Cercanías hosts the Cercanías, Medium Distancia and Long Distance traffics in the direction of Chamartín. In this way, it becomes the main hub of the Madrid nucleus, being a way station for all the lines of the network, except the C-9.
Access to the commuter platforms is under the large hall located in the circular building designed by Rafael Moneo, also communicating with the long-distance station, the metro, and the old canopy. A cylindrical body of exposed brick and glass on the outside and a large lobby, long-distance connected to the metro, shopping areas, and the Cercanías station itself with 5 platforms linked by walkways and escalators in the underground area, make Atocha - Cercanías practical and functional.
The Atocha station also has a Customer Service Center. Travelers can use WiFi for free thanks to PlayRenfe's connectivity, information, and entertainment services, with a maximum connection time of 30 minutes.
Outside, in front of the circular building, an open space has been erected since March 2007 that pays tribute to the Victims of the 11M terrorist attack.
A railway enclave that combines tradition and modernity. It is the main train station in Madrid and the one with the highest number of travelers in the entire Cercanías Madrid network.
