On September 27-28, 2012, The John Marshall Law School presented a two-day symposium in Chicago addressing the development of privacy law in the United States. Amitai Etzioni of The George Washington University delivered the opening keynote address, and the symposium concluded with a closing convocation address by Justice Antonin Scalia of the United States Supreme Court. The symposium sessions featured prominent academics, advocates, and policymakers discussing various aspects of privacy law. Historical perspectives on privacy were the focus of a panel on September 27, including Alberto Bernabe (John Marshall) and Marc Rotenberg (EPIC/Georgetown). On September 28, Peter Swire (Ohio State) and other policy experts addressed regulatory issues, followed by a discussion of technology and privacy, featuring Ann Bartow (Pace), Doris Long (John Marshall), and Robert Gurwin (AOL). The conference proceedings will be published in The John Marshall Journal of Computer & Information Law, published by John Marshall's Center for Information Technology and Privacy Law.
