Purana Qila | Purana Qila History | Old Fort of Delhi | New Delhi | 4K
Purana Qila, located in New Delhi is a beautiful example of ancient architecture of the Mughal Empire. Also known as the Old Fort of Delhi, Purana Qila History is famous in India.
Purana Qila was built by the Mughal Emperor Humayun in 1533. He had laid the foundation of his new capital, Din Panah, at this place. When Sher Shah Suri defeated Humayun in 1540, he changed the name of this place to Shergarh. During his rule, he made few structural additions to the fort.
The fort has three entrances. The western gate is known as the Bara Darwaza. The western gate or Bara Darwaza is still in use and is the main gate to enter the Purana Qila.
The main attraction here is the Qila-e-Kuhna Mosque. Designed in Indo- Islamic architecture, the mosque was built by Sher Shah in 1541.
Another attraction here is the Sher Mandal. Sher Mandal is a double storeyed building built in red stone.
Next attraction is the southern gate called the Humayun Darwaza. Humayun Darwaza has two doors one above the other.
Next is the northern gate, called the Talaaqi Darwaza.
On the right side of the main entrance is the Archaeological museum. There are specimens in this museum that were found at the fort site by the Archaeological Survey of India.
