The digital Family & Friends Railcard from Trainline is stored in the Trainline app, so you can use it right away to save 1/3 on eligible train tickets.
With the Family & Friends Railcard, you can travel with up to three adults, and they'll get the same 1/3 off, or bring up to four children aged 5-15 with you and get 60% off their child fares. There must be at least one child travelling together with one of the two cardholders.
The Family & Friends Railcard costs just £30 for one year. You can also buy a 3-year Family & Friends Railcard – it costs just £70, meaning you can save £20 on the price of three 1-year Railcards.

If you and your friends, or you and your family, like to explore the UK by rail, you’ll be chuffed to know that you can save 1/3 on adults' train tickets and 60% off kids' fares too with the Family and Friends Railcard.
It’s basically a digital discount card that sits inside your Trainline app, and it’s perfect for groups of up to 4 adults and 4 children aged 5 to 15. And no, absolutely no relation is necessary.
Before we dive in, it’s important to remember there are quite a few different Railcards to choose from. Click on our general video to learn about them all or stick around to see what the Family and Friends Railcard is all about.
Just £30 for the year – that’s the cost of a Family and Friends Railcard. Or, if you’re feeling thrifty, you can get a three-year one for £70. If you take the train quite a lot, this Railcard will pay off itself in no time whatsoever. But even that isn't the best bit because with Trainline, your Family and Friends Railcard is, wait for it… digital. It’s stored directly inside your app, ready for use right away.
Trowbridge, Troon, Tenby and beyond. A Family and Friends Railcard means you’ll get 1/3 off most Standard Class tickets for adults and 60% off kids' fares too for trains in England, Scotland and Wales.
Like most other Railcards, you’ll also get 1/3 off bus travel from the good people over at PlusBus, which makes getting to and from the station that little bit cheaper.
Now some combined rail and sea journeys to the Isle of Wight are also included here. Yes, that does mean the ferry. And yes, it also means the hovercraft. We reckon frankly a discounted day out on a hovercraft is worth the cost of this Railcard alone.
You can use your Friends and Family Railcard at any time of day, apart from journeys between two stations within the London and South-East area during morning Peak hours Monday to Friday, which is 4:30am and 10am. Do remember though, there are a few significant other exclusions. For example, the discount isn't available on First Class tickets or in combination with some promotions like GroupSave and indeed Season tickets. Do check the terms for each Railcard type to see what you get.

Tap ‘Buy 1-year for £30’ or, if you’re keen and the deal’s available, ‘Buy 3-year for £70’.
Now enter your details, upload a digital, passport-style photograph, sign in to your Trainline account on the app and bingo! Welcome to the Railcard club.
Remember, you can buy more than one Railcard, but you can only ever use one per transaction.
When planning your next trip, enter departure and arrival stations as usual, then select your new Railcard from the drop-down menu and the saving is applied automatically.
