Sean made this particular instrument in 1979 from Elder he harvested in Eugene, Oregon on Dec. 21st, 1976 (Elder Tag)
He had asked Robert Donovan Thomas (RIP) how much he would charge to make one. When told that it would cost $100USD, Sean decided that he would make one himself, out of a 1 inch diameter Elder branch that he was going to use for Irish Uilleann Pipe Chanter Reeds. He made several of these and gave them away as presents to other Pipers, saving this one for his History of Piping Show.
Sean's Bebb relatives (on his Mother's side of his family) in Powys, Wales were delighted with his progress !!!
All Hornpipes across Europe are ultimately part of the origin of the Clarinet in the 18th century,
and the Saxophone, in the 19th century.
