In western societies there has been a concerted effort to minimize the importance of the nuclear family structure. The nuclear family unit of course consisting of two parents (mother and a father) and their children. There are some who suggest that the nuclear family ideal was a mistake to begin with but, it's my belief that society has become progressively worse since it began undervaluing the importance of this family architype.
