Filmmaker Werner Herzog speaks about avant-garde cellist and composer Ernst Reijseger. The two have enjoyed a uniquely close collaboration for nearly 10 years. The latest music-and-image pairing is "Hearsay of the Soul," a video installation—Herzog's first—that morphs Reijseger with images by 17th-century visionary painter and printmaker Hercules Segers. Initially created by Herzog for the Whitney Biennial in 2012, "Hearsay of the Soul" was recently acquired by the Getty Museum.
Herzog spoke to us in the Green Room just before his appearance on stage on August 3, 2013; Reijseger had a bit of fun with impromptu performances around the Getty Center during the days leading up to the event.
