December 5 marks 21 years since the signing of the Budapest Memorandum. The document, signed by the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, the UK, and the US, required Ukraine give up its nuclear weapons stockpile. World powers in exchange promised to respect Ukraine's existing borders and sovereinty of an indepedent Ukraine. More than two decades on, that treaty has been lost in time.
