Lars Bartkuhn - co-founder of influential Frankfurt deep house label Needs Music - seems to have split his brain right down the middle. The Nomad EP — his latest outing on Phonica-related imprint, Utopia — is quite the open market stall: jazz fusion, ambient dabblings and Afro-Caribbean flavours make for a sumptuous listen.
It's a brave and all-encompassing approach from the man who recently stepped out on Neroli Records with the endearing Music for The Golden Age. One which is highlighted most accurately on the title track.
At its zenith, the "Nomad (Full Experience)" soars between Jazzanova-esque rhythms; emotive and considerably light on its toes. Those guitar twangs are plucked from the ripe summer months, making this a strong shoe-in for best background music as you lap up the August rays.
It's out way before that though; early May to be precise. Pre-order it while spring is still springing.
