No plant has a fragrance quite as delectable as the gardenia. But unless you live where it is warm year round, it really could only be grown as a houseplant. And as a houseplant it isn't able to bloom quite as much as those grown outdoors. So when the Hardy Gardenia came into existence, it quickly became one of my favorite plants!

This is a glossy, evergreen shrub that can take winter temperatures to zone 6b. And grown in the garden it is a blooming machine, putting out flowers all summer long. I personally grow one in a large container on my patio, and love how the fragrance of their flowers wafts into my apartment day in and day out.
