“I answer calls from community at midnight,” says Katrina Harrison.
“As Aboriginal women, these leaders are so important to our community. It takes my breath away when I hear some of our women talk in meetings. I think; ‘when I grow up, I want to be like you’ – I hope my kids feel the same about me.”
Meet Katrina Harrison, proud Palawa woman and member of the Victorian Government’s Victim Survivors’ Advisory Council (VSAC) and the East Gippsland Indigenous Family Violence Regional Advisory Group.
In these roles, Katrina uses her lived experience to lead local, regional, and state-wide family violence prevention and response work.
This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating Katrina for her leadership and incredible advocacy for her community and for victim-survivors of family violence.
On celebrating Victorian women, Katrina says: ‘‘We’re adaptable, we’re unique, we are amazing” – and we couldn’t agree more.
Who will you celebrate today?
