Today, we're test fitting the Glacier Chain Twist Link Snow Tire chains on our 2022 Toyota Tundra. These are a ladder pattern style chain. So we're just gonna have cross chains going across. So this is gonna be a little bit more rough of a ride, compared to some of the diagonal-type chains. But since we have a twist-link here, this is gonna be a little bit more smoother than some of the bigger square links that you may have on your options on our website. These are made of a low-carbon steel, so they're not as tough as some of the manganese-nickel alloy steels, but they're still going to last quite a long time.
What I like about these is the cam tensioners. So a lot of these chains that you may be looking at, some of them don't have them, but the cams really do a good job of making sure that chain is nice and tight on your tire. That's what you want. You don't want any slop whenever you're trying to get unstuck, just because the chains just gonna sit there and kinda not really do what it needs to do. So, the cams really do a good job of that.
And the cams are probably the closest thing to the wheels. But even if we are in deep snow, I don't see any point at which the chain is gonna hit our wheels, so you don't have to worry about them getting scratched up, which is good. I really do like this option if you're going for a mid-tier aggressive tread. I really don't think that these are gonna be the least amount of traction you can get, but it's definitely gonna be in the mid tier. If you wanted to get something that was crazy, crazy, which is probably the V-Bar style chains.
Those are extremely aggressive, but they might kinda mark up your garage if you put them on in there, instead of putting them on whenever we are stuck. Moving on to the bag, this is a canvas bag. I have seen these kinda rip over time, but there is plenty of room for both of them to fit in here. And yes, it does come in a pack of two. We can put these on the rear wheels, but if you do want to use it in four-wheel drive applications, just grab two sets of this.
And that's pretty much it. It doesn't take a whole lot of time to install, so if you stick around, we're gonna show you. You wanna lay out your chains, and there's a couple of things we need to look at. One, the link right here, this is the more rough side. The other side is a lot smoother. We want the smooth side to be towards the tires. And then also with our cam tensioners, we want those to be on the outside, so we can access them later. That being said, we just wanna grab the middle of the chains and drape them over, making sure they're nice and even, both front and back, but also side to side as well. Once that's all figured out I will meet you around back to make our first connection. On one side, we're gonna have a bunch of links, and on the other side, we're gonna have a hook. So connect those. I highly suggest doing this in your garage, because there is gonna be a link that's gonna work best for your tires. I found that the end one is the best, but definitely do this a couple of times before you're in a situation to where you need to do it. Same thing on the front. We've got a link and we have a hook. I'm gonna use the second one over here. And connect, and get it to fit. There's some slack, but we're not done yet. We have some cam tensioners, for which there is a tool included with our kit. I always start with the one at the center, and twist that. It's gonna take more slack out the more we do. So it's getting a little bit more difficult to tighten these up, which is good. And one more. All right, that's pretty good, pretty tight, but we're not done yet. We do need a rubber tensioner, which will be in the related parts section on the webpage that you're on. This is what they look like. They're not included with the kit. The one thing we need to do, is just make sure that the hooks are gonna be facing away from the tires. And then when we are hooking these up, we wanna be as symmetrical as possible. I always start in the center on top and then have two on the outsides, connect the bottom one, and then just go do the rest of it. And this is just gonna make sure that we have the tensioner just evenly distributing all of the tension throughout the chain. And there's one more step, the easiest one, we go in there, we roll over it a couple of times, come back out, make sure that everything's still nice and tight after it set
